Eastern Hellbender

Cryptobranchus alleganiensis

Printed onlight terracotta o-gami paper

Local to the Little Muskingum River, The Eastern Hellbender is a large aquatic salamander native to the eastern and central U.S. It is the only extant member of the genus Cryptobranchus. Hellbenders have both working lungs and gills, although it primarily absorbs oxygen from the water through capillaries on its side frills.  These effects are magnified by its relatively long life cycle: it takes the Green Salamander as long as 7-8 years to reach reproductive maturity.  These prints are numbered and signed by the artist. There are only 3 prints left. Once those are gone there will be no more available.
