Timber Rattlesnake
Crotalus horridus
Printed on unbleached abaca
This species of pit viper is endemic to North America and is extremely venomous. Known for its distinctive dark brown or black crossbands over a yellow-gray background, fully grown Timber Rattlesnakes can range in size from 36 and 60 inches long. In the Northeast United States, where the snake is most prevalent, early settlers were very afraid of this species. Today, due to habitat loss, 50-75% of the population of Crotalus horridus has been extirpated, so that fear should subside.
