Timber Rattlesnake

Crotalus horridus

Printed on unbleached abaca

This species of pit viper is endemic to North America and is extremely venomous. Known for its distinctive dark brown or black crossbands over a yellow-gray background, fully grown Timber Rattlesnakes can range in size from 36 and 60 inches long. In the Northeast United States, where the snake is most prevalent, early settlers were very afraid of this species. Today, due to habitat loss, 50-75% of the population of Crotalus horridus has been extirpated, so that fear should subside. These effects are magnified by its relatively long life cycle: it takes the Green Salamander as long as 7-8 years to reach reproductive maturity.  These prints are numbered and signed by the artist. There are only 4 prints left. Once those are gone there will be no more available.
