Green Salamander

Aneides aeneus

Printed on frog green o-gami paper

The Green Salamander is a lungless salamander that demands an extremely particular habitat: moist rock crevices. Within its family of Plethodontidae, it is the most particular of all species, and is very rare to spot in the wild. One reason for this is that it almost always avoids sunlight, and is extremely aggressive in its behavior. Conservation efforts for a picky species like Aneides aeneus have proven to be tricky. It suffers from habitat loss, disease, and effects of climate change. These effects are magnified by its relatively long life cycle: it takes the Green Salamander as long as 7-8 years to reach reproductive maturity.
